Chief Executive BCSC


Michael Green spent 20 years with Marks & Spencer. He was responsible for the company taking a leading role in the development of Town Centre Management schemes throughout the country. Michael then joined MEPC, at the time the second largest property company in the country, helping it work more closely with some of its 1,200 retail tenants in their shopping centres. After leaving MEPC he started his own consultancy, GTT Associates, which specialised in the implementation of business plans and funding for the management of town and city centres throughout the UK.

 

Joseph Wan

Joseph Wan, a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Arbitrator, became Chief Executive of Harvey Nichols in August 1992, having previously been the Group Finance Director for five years of Dickson Concepts which has its headquarters in Hong Kong and engages in
the distribution of luxury brands in the Far East. During that time,
he oversaw the expansion of the Group from 20 stores in Hong Kong to over 120 stores in the Far East region covering Hong Kong,
Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and China.

Since August 1992, Harvey Nichols have grown from a domestic
one-store business to a business of high international reputation and its portfolio today includes five stores and two stand-alone restaurants in the UK and one overseas store in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and its expansion programme, both domestic and overseas, is ongoing.

  David Sylvester
Vice President, Retail Development, Asia Sands Retail Asia


David Sylvester has held the position of Vice President of Retail Development Asia at Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS) since 2005. He is responsible for overseeing the company’s ambitious retail plans for Cotai Stripâ Macao and the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
Mr. Sylvester has over 22 years of experience in the development
and ongoing management of shopping centres in Asia Pacific.
Over the course of his career, he has been involved in more than
40 major retail projects.


His responsibilities include managing the retail leasing and management strategy of The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel® Grand Canal Shoppes, a one million square foot retail destination and one of the central attractions of The Venetian Macao, allowing visitors to enjoy a unique retail shopping experience amidst the ornate architecture, canals and gondola rides of the Renaissance Italian city.

Under his leadership, his team is attracting many of the world’s biggest brands, together with top Asian names in the retail and F&B sectors to both Macao’s Grand Canal Shoppes and The Marina Bay Shoppes, part of the Marina Bay Sands development in Singapore, which comprises a further one million square feet of leading-edge retail space.

Prior to joining the company, Mr Sylvester was Group General Manager of GIC Real Estate retail assets in Australia and China. He was previously the head of Jones Lang LaSalle’s International Retail Leasing for Asia, based in Hong Kong. Mr. Sylvester enjoyed a 12 year career with Jones Lang LaSalle, having started his career with
Westfield and Lend Lease.


  Stephen Pragnell

Stephen started his Real Estate career at Norwich Union, managing a portfolio of six Shopping Centres in France. Joining Jones Lang LaSalle France as an associate, he worked as asset manager and retail consultant for Adia, DGI, EuroCommercial Properties, and Bouygues. Since 2002, Stephen is with the French shopping centre developer, manager and investor Apsys Group, first in Warsaw as General Manager of Apsys Polska, and from May 2008 at the group head office in Paris as Group Director for External Relations.

  Alvaro Portela
CEO, Sonae Sierra and Vice President of Sonae Group

In Sonae Group since 1985 he was previously President of Sonae Distribuição, the retail arm of the Group. In 1989 he becomes the CEO of Sonae Sierra with the objective of becoming a leading international shopping and leisure centre owner, developer,
and manager.

Currently the Company already operates in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Romania and Brazil and owns 48 shopping and leisure centres with more than 1.7 million m2 of GLA. In total the Company manages more than 2 million m2 of GLA with
around 8.000 tenants.

Past experiences include Finance Director of Copam and
President of Laboratorios Bial.

Álvaro Portela has a degree in Mechanical Engineering

  Morgan Parker

Morgan Parker leads Taubman Centers' in the Asia-Pacific region. NYSE-listed Taubman is one of the leading retail developers in the United States, with America's most productive and consistent regional mall portfolio.

As President of Taubman Asia — established in 2005 - Mr. Parker is focused on owning, managing, developing and acquiring high-quality and sustainable retail real estate projects in Asia that leverage Taubman's strong retail planning, design and operational capabilities.

In addition to his responsibilities at Taubman, Mr. Parker serves on the Asia Pacific Board of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Board of the Asian Public Real Estate Association (APREA), the pre-eminent industry group for REITs in Asia. He is also chair of the ICSC's Asia Pacific Research Advisory Board.

Morgan was formerly based in Tokyo and oversaw Morgan Stanley Real Estate's retail investment and management businesses in Asia. He also served as President of Promena Retail Properties, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morgan Stanley that specializes in retail asset and property management in Japan.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Morgan held senior positions with Lend Lease and Macquarie Bank in Asia. During this time he was responsible for a variety of real estate investment, development, management and advisory initiatives.

Over the last 11 years, Morgan has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Jakarta, Shanghai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei and Tokyo. He graduated from Bond University in Australia with a law degree, and is married with one daughter.

He is a Steering Committee member of ICSC’s European Research Group and holds both a BSc. and MSc. Between 1993 and 2000 he headed up the European Real Estate departments for global brands Foot Locker and Gap, and later joined the ICSC as its MD for European Operations. Born and raised in his native country, Nigeria, Chris is multi-lingual in English, French, German and Dutch.

  Andrew Ogg

Andrew Ogg is Managing Director of Leslie Jones, one of the UK’s leading architectural practices specialising in retail and mixed use regeneration projects with offices in London and Manchester. He joined the practice in 1983, became a partner in 1986 and was appointed as Managing Partner in 1996 prior to incorporation.

Andrew has been involved extensively in the design and construction of mixed use, retail and leisure town centre projects throughout his career including The Chimes Uxbridge for Capital Shopping Centres Plc (BCSC New Centre Commendation), The Great Northern Manchester for Morrison Merlin Ltd and English Partnerships, and Wandsworth Southside for Portfolio Holdings and Deutsche Bank (BCSC Gold Award). Current projects include Wembley Regeneration for Quintain, Leeds Eastgate Quarter for Hammerson, Eldon Square Southern Gateway for Capital Shopping Centres, Newport Regeneration for Modus Corovest and Newport Unlimited and Gravesend Heritage Quarter, Thames Gateway for
Edinburgh House Estates.

He has been a member of the Board of Management of The British Council of Shopping Centres, the representative body of the retail property industry, since 1997, was chairman of the BCSC annual conference in Manchester in 1999, and was the first architect
President of BCSC in 2004. He has been involved in the commissioning and publication of a number of key BCSC Research projects including ‘Urban Design for Retail Environments’, ‘Managing the Retail Led Environment of the Future’, ‘The Good Transport Guide’ and ‘The Smaller Towns Report. He is also an advisor the English Historic Towns Forum on their guidance on Retail Development in
Historic Towns.

Andrew is also Chairman of the Development Design Awards Jury for the South African Council of Shopping Centres and a member of the Retail and Future Project Awards Jury held at MAPIC in Cannes.

  Gerard Michael Waters

Carmine Rotondaro is the Worldwide Real Estate Director of the Gucci Group, for which he has been serving for the last eight years. In such a capacity, he coordinates the real estate needs and projects of all the Gucci Group brands and divisions which include, beside Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Sergio Rossi, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga etc.

In the last 17 years Mr. Nagesh has taken the business of retailing to new heights. As the M.D. of Shoppers' Stop, Mr. B. S. Nagesh has infused the latest retail techniques into the business, blending the best of national and international talent within the company. NASSCOM in association with Economic Times awarded Shoppers' Stop the “Best IT User” in the retail vertical.

Mr. B.S. Nagesh has been involved in setting up and opening the country’s largest hypermarket HyperCity, which was launched in May 2006. HyperCity has been declared as one of the top 100 retail destinations in the world by Retail Week, UK and the best hypermarket at the United States International Design Awards in New York.

His leadership and vision for the company has enabled franchise of various international brands like M.A.C & Mothercare and setting up of JVs with Nuance of Switzerland for airport retailing and with LAI of Australia for Timezone entertainment centers. Mr. Nagesh was also instrumental in acquiring of the Crossword chain of bookstores in the year 2005.

Mr. Nagesh has been recognized as ‘The Retail Professional of The Year’ by CMAI for the years 2001, 2003, 2005 & 2006.He was also felicitated with ‘The Best Professional of the Year’ award at the ICICI Bank, Retail Awards in 2005.In November 2006, Mr. Nagesh has been awarded the ‘Entrepreneurship Award’ in the Enterprise Scions Awards instituted by DNA Money and the ‘Visionary Award’ by ICFAI.

Ernst & Young nominated him for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2005 as one of the top 30 finalists.

Mr. Nagesh has been recognized as an iconic retailer and was inducted into the “World Retail Hall of Fame” 2008 along with Mr. Millard Drexler of J Crew, Sir Philip Green of BHS and Arcadia and Mr. Amancio Ortega of Inditex at the World Retail Congress 2008 conducted in Barcelona. The four iconic retailers have been selected by retail industry leaders and experts from across the Globe in recognition of their supreme industry achievements.

With his induction in the World Retail Hall of Fame 2008, Mr. Nagesh is the only Indian retailer to take a significant place alongside more than 100 stalwarts of the global retail industry, which includes veterans like Sam Walton of Wal-Mart, Giorgio Armani, Jack Cohen of Tesco, Simon Marks and Israel Sieff of Marks & Spencer; Ingvar Kamprad of Ikea, amongst others.

Chris has extensive experience of the retail and restaurant sectors having been McDonald's Europe's General Counsel for 10 years and has 25 years experience of domestic and global franchising.
