International award-winning architects, masterplanners and interior designers Benoy, has seen new levels of growth and heightened productivity in the past 12 months.
The company has also had its most successful year in China since it entered the market nearly a decade ago. RLI spoke with Benoy’s Chairman, Graham Cartledge CBE, about its ongoing success.

Benoy’s global reputation continues to be cemented by the completion of a number of prominent projects around the world. Highlights include the iconic Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and award-winning Shanghai ifc Mall in China”, reports Graham Cartledge CBE, Chairman of Benoy.
“Ferrari World Abu Dhabi allowed the Benoy team to deliver a revolutionary design solution – the end result has been celebrated as a destination that combines the passion of Ferrari with the ambitions and vision of Abu Dhabi.”

International work constituted some 80 per cent of the British company’s global turnover in 2010 and China fees contributed to just over 50 per cent of this.
The aspirations and appetites of China’s discerning consumer were satisfied by the opening of Benoy’s Shanghai ifc Mall, located in the thriving Pudong business district. This luxury retail destination is the latest Benoy development to open in China and has subsequently been named ‘Best Shopping Centre in Asia 2010’ at industry awards, MIPIM Asia. This award marks the third year of Benoy designs being heralded ‘The Best in Asia’.

Benoy was also delighted to deliver The Orchard Residences in Singapore.
Atop the company’s award-winning ION Orchard mall development on Orchard Road, Benoy’s luxury residential tower opened to critical acclaim. The scheme is a dramatic landmark that extends beyond the existing skyline.
Closer to home, Benoy continues to be acknowledged by its peers with St David’s Cardiff receiving two awards at the British Council of Shopping Centres Annual Dinner, including the ‘Supreme Gold Award’.

“2010 was not a year to sit back and reflect on past successes”, says Cartledge. “In a response to the challenges that the industry presented – and indeed continues to present in many markets – Benoy took a decision to focus on ‘adding value’ and so demonstrates the Company’s ongoing commitment to realising commercially-viable design solutions. Benoy’s philosophy of ‘Working globally and thinking locally’ has never been more relevant.”
