Founded in 1913 in Essen, Germany, Deichmann SE has transformed into a global brand with stores in Germany, Bulgaria, Denmark, Britain, Italy, Croatia, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Hungary. All stores are owned by Deichmann.

The group also operates in Switzerland under the brands Dosenbach-Ochsner and Ochsner Sport; in the Netherlands under the brand vanHaren; and the US under the brands Rack Room Shoes and Off Broadway. In 2011, Serbia and Portugal will join the group.

The company is the market leader in the European shoe retail trade and currently employs a staff of more than 30,000 worldwide.

In 2010, Deichmann sold about 152 million pairs of shoes worldwide - 10 per cent more than in the previous year. Revenue grew from €3.4 billion to €3.93 billion in the same period.

Wolfgang Wislsperger, Managing Director of Deichmann SE, said: “Deichmann now yields around 55 per cent of its turnover abroad. This development was to be expected given our increasing international expansion, and will continue at an accelerated rate.

“At the end of 2010, the group operated 2,939 stores worldwide increasing its number of locations by 172 over the previous year. One of our most recent openings was our 3000th store in Istanbul, and our expansion is ongoing.

“The Deichmann Group has become Europe’s biggest footwear retailer and is still fully owned by the family. Family ownership has proved to be a winning formula for nearly 100 years and so it will continue in the future.

“We offer a wide selection of shoes for all age groups – possibly the most comprehensive selection on the market. We don’t just ensure outstanding value for the money we’re also quick to bring out the latest fashion trends.”

Besides tradition-rich brands like Elefanten, Gallus and Medicus, its modern shops offer elegant premium shoes by 5th Avenue – a collaboration with style icon Cindy Crawford - and famous brands like Adidas, Nike, Puma and Kappa. Wislsperger added: “We don’t just offer our customers fashion at a great price, but also quality and safety when buying shoes.

“We offer a comprehensive assortment of fashionable, high-quality shoes at a great price for all age groups and we are bound by a clear promise of quality.
