| Innovative
Calgary development set to wow visitors |
 |
Construction
is well underway on the Calgary Eaton Centre in Alberta, Canada.
Owner/Developer SITQ and the Alberta Investment Management Corporation
anticipate the opening of this 55,700sq m GLA multi-level development
to be completed in Fall 2010. The retail component was designed
by Montreal-based GHA Design Studios and MMC International Architects
of Toronto.
Under a canopy of structural glass, the largest of its kind
in the world, people will enjoy a vibrant streetscape experience
that is awash in natural light. Unlike enclosed gallerias of
earlier days, the uniqueness of this crystalline canopy will
more closely emulate outdoor plazas and promenades enabling
patrons to experience the environment unfettered.
To date, anchor tenants include Holt Renfrew, Brooks Brothers
and Harry Rosen; upon opening, the development will offer 164
retail tenants. This project, along with its world-class retailers
and the integration of the 2.5-acre Devonian Gardens urban park,
is the main draw to attract residents to Calgary’s business
district and revitalise the downtown core so that it remains
vibrant after office hours, seven days a week.
Shops and boutiques of the calibre of Holt Renfrew will attract
and tantalise the shopper while unique cafes, restaurants and
mercados will nurture the appetites of visitors.

| Walmart’s
Mike Duke outlines three key priorities for growth |
 |
At
Walmart’s annual investors meeting, President &
CEO Mike Duke (pictured) highlighted the three key priorities
for the company to further enhance shareholder value. The
main focus of his comments were directed towards continuing
to have aggressive growth plans, leveraging global scale and
expenses, and improving the returns of each operating segment.
“There is no retail competitor - here in the United
States or anywhere in the world - that can deliver the kind
of growth that Walmart can over the next several years,”
he said. “Expenses will grow less than sales and Walmart’s
entire management team is re-energized to improve in this
important metric. The productivity loop is back at Walmart.”

| Signature
brand building on corner in ‘Bloomies country’ |
 |
The
leasing team of Faith Hope Consolo, Chairman, and Joseph Aquino,
Executive Vice President of Prudential Douglas Elliman’s
Retail Leasing, Marketing and Sales Division has been chosen
to market a three-level standalone building at 989 Third Avenue,
on the southeast corner of 59th Street, a major retail corridor
shared by Bloomingdale’s and the Bloomberg Building.
A rare brand building availability for this high-profile district,
with approximately 3,000sq ft, it is on the same block as
the prestigious Decoration & Design Building and Architects
& Designers Building. Also along the popular Third Avenue
corridor are City Cinemas, Urban Outfitters, Home Depot, The
Container Store and Ethan Allen. Destination eateries also
enhance the area: Dylan’s Candy Bar, David Burke at
Bloomingdales, California Pizza Kitchen and the world renowned
Le Cirque.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for a retailer to
have its own brand prominently displayed on multiple levels
on one of the busiest streets in Midtown,” said Consolo.
“It’s at the apex of where the world of fashion
meets worldwide corporate headquarters, which makes it ideal
for everything from upscale boutiques to home furnishings
and much more.”
Added Aquino: “The ‘seven-days-a week’ traffic
on this block is nonstop because it’s ‘Bloomies
Country’ to shoppers around the world. This is an absolute
destination for millions, which is why we place so many successful
retail businesses along Third and Lexington Avenues.”
