REVIEWS - DEVELOPER REVIEW - NOV 10 - SANDS RETAIL ASIA

Sands Retail Asia has enjoyed a fantastic year and the excitement is palpable. David Sylvester, senior Vice President, Retail Development Asia, talks to RLI about the next phase of openings at one of the world’s most exciting new destination developments.

Sands Retail Asia has had a hugely successful year, holding an opening ceremony at Marina Bay Sands in June it opened all 2,561 hotel rooms, the spectacular Sands SkyPark and the Sands Expo & Convention Center, whilst The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands welcomed shoppers with its exciting mix of retail brands. The company is now looking forward to the last quarter of the year, when it will wow all of its guests at Marina Bay Sands with state-of-the-art theatres, a museum and more store launches. “We welcomed the year with a bang when we celebrated our Preview Event in April, giving the world a glimpse of what our integrated resort in Singapore was going to be – a world-class entertainment destination,” says David Sylvester, Senior Vice President, Retail Development Asia.

Indeed, legendary designer Peter Marino has created unique concept stores for Chanel, Christian Dior, Fendi and Louis Vuitton.

“We really are looking forward to this quarter of the year, which will see an exciting series of store openings such as De Beers, Cartier, Ralph Lauren and Hermes,” he says.

Retail Sands Asia has enjoyed overwhelming support from both Singapore and international guests, says Sylvester, with visitors arriving from all over the world to discover that Marina Bay Sands is a destination by itself.

So what is the group’s development plan for 2010-11 and what’s in the pipeline?

“At Marina Bay Sands, our focus is on the completion of the Museum and theatres that are expected at the end of 2010; the completion of the North and South nodes of the mall will be delivered in December, with the Crystal Pavilions early in 2011,” explains Sylvester

Due to its ability to market itself incredibly well internationally, Singapore is a very established and exciting tourist destination. At the same time, it is important for Sands Retail Asia to provide a unique experience for its guests. The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands boast one of the highest concentrations of luxury brands and new emerging labels in one destination, and the contemporary open design of the mall, offering stunning views of the city, is unique in the Singapore shopping landscape.
