After 28 years in operation, the Japanese department store has closed its doors.

Located at CentralWorld in Bangkok, and covering six floors, Isetan has long been known to provide a feeling of home for those Japanese residents living in Thailand. Following an announcement in March that Isetan would not be renewing its lease of its CentralWorld location; the department store has now closed its doors to the public for the last time. According to reports it is unlikely that operator Mitsukoshi Group would reopen the store in a new location. This can be as a result of the brands sales falling 70 per cent of the peak level in 1997.

According to Central Pattana PLC, the 27,000sq m retail space will undergo renovation as a new Japanese-style shopping outlet and an urban lifestyle destination.
