Experience The Extraordinary

Founded by American entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge back in 1909, Selfridges is widely regarded as the first example of a modern department store. Here, RLI speaks with Managing Director Anne Pitcher to find out the latest in-store innovations and assess what comes next for the company.

Selfridges is a unique global destination for the latest in designer and contemporary fashion, beauty and lifestyle, a place where the world’s most covetable brands combine with the most extraordinary customer experiences and events to create a retail environment like no other. The legacy of founder Harry Gordon Selfridge – famous for revolutionising practically every aspect of retail – is one that lives on to the present day as the store continues to deliver a shopping experience that promises to constantly surprise, amaze and amuse its customers. “There are several elements which together combine to making Selfridges stand out and deliver the unique spirit which resonates so much with our customers,” explains Anne Pitcher, Managing Director of Selfridges. “Crucially, it is the strength of the Selfridges community – from customers and brands to creative and business partners – that keeps us at the forefront of our industry, involving everyone as much as possible in conversation, collaboration and innovation.” Selfridges currently operates four stores across the UK and an international website that delivers within the UK and to over 130 countries around the world, whilst trading in eight currencies. In recent years the company has resolutely put sustainability at the core of everything it does as it looks to inspire its people, partners and customers to respect the environment, buy responsibly and champion sustainable products which contribute to healthy and happy communities.
