The leading fast-casual chicken chain is seeing a sharp increase in customer demand in the tests of their Kiwibot delivery robots.
Over the past year, Chick-fil-A has noticed an increased positive impact on its customer’s experiences during pilots of their semi-autonomous Kiwibot food delivery robots. The Kiwibot is able to make informed navigation decisions based on their environment but still do require human override.
The robots are fitted with high-tech sensors that are able to detect people, traffic lights and vehicles which allows them to make decisions in their path planning and ultimately avoid obstacles. Alongside this, the robots are supported remotely by specially trained human supervisors to ensure safe operations.
The Kiwibots are able to meet customers up to a mile away, with average delivery taking 30 minutes and costing around $1.99. Kiwibot is releasing version 4.0 of the robots which utilises a new set of cameras, lights, speakers and modular features which enhance robot to human interaction.
