The American fashion label is set to close its only Singapore outlet which is located at the Knightsbridge Mall on Orchard Road.
Abercrombie & Fitch entered the Singapore market in 2011 with the opening of their first and only store in the city. Upon entering, the brand caused controversy with shirtless models presented in its advertising campaigns, breaching local guidelines on decency. These advertisements were later suspended by the Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore.
The brand disclosed that the store would be closing down on their Instagram channel, citing their last operating date as May 2. As of yet, no reason has been given as to why the brand is closing this store, however the same post included a QR code which links customers to its mobile app, suggesting that fans of the brand will still be able to shop online.
The store closure comes amid a global policy of shutting flagship stores which was announced towards the end of last year. Abercrombie & Fitch is now running a closing down sale at the flagship store, with 50 per cent off all items.
