South Korean airlines are selling in-flight items for consumers to quench their thirst for travel.

Top flag carrier Korean Air Lines released a blanket for first-class seats last month priced at 48,000 won (US$41.50). A special package for first-class passengers that includes pajamas, slippers and a pouch, is also being sold for 89,000 won.

Airlines normally don’t sell the blankets used by those travelling in first class. Some passengers take them with them from time to time, or sell them at second-hand stores.

Meanwhile, Jeju Air, the country’s biggest budget carrier, is currently operating ‘in-flight cafes’ in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province where actual flight attendants in official uniforms sell in-flight meals, neck pillows, dolls and other goods.

Airlines are stepping up to turn ‘in-flight experience’ into merchandise in order to secure customer loyalty, industry watchers said.
