According to Haikou Customs, year-end daily sales in Hainan’s offshore duty free market for the period spanning 31 December to 2 January averaged CNY 140M.
During the three-day holiday, Haikou Customs said 43,000 people went duty free shopping and between them they purchased around 476,000 units, with an average transaction value of CNY 9,816, which was around the same amount as the period the year before.
These figures bode well for the upcoming China New Year/Spring Festival holidays which take place between the 21-27 January.
“After China’s optimisation of the Covid-19 measures, business operators expect that the tourism sector will grow vigorously,” Pan Helin, Co-Director of the Digital Economy and Financial Innovation Research Center at Zhejiang University’s International Business School told China Daily.
