Landsec, part of The St David’s Partnership, has announced that Gaucho will launch their first Welsh restaurant at the centre. The Argentinian steakhouse will occupy 8,000 sq ft on The Hayes, the premium retail and dining destination located within St David’s.
The restaurant will sit across two floors to accommodate 220 covers and will feature private dining rooms plus a cocktail bar. Sustainability will be at the heart of the new restaurant, which will run on 100% renewable energy, operate a zero waste policy and serve only carbon neutral beef.
Speaking on behalf of the St David’s partnership, Mark Warne, Brand Account Director – F&B and Leisure at Landsec, said: “We’re curating a premium offer at St David’s so that we can continue to provide guests with unique experiences which can’t be found elsewhere. With The Ivy, The Ivy Asia and Giggling Squid all making their regional debut on The Hayes, St David’s is fast becoming the premier destination for high end dining in Wales.”
Mike Reid, Executive Chef at Gaucho said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing Gaucho to Cardiff, our first restaurant in Wales. I’m excited to bring our signature sustainable steaks and a taste of Argentina to the Cardiff community and look forward to welcoming our first diners.”
At the end of 2022, luxury British perfume house Penhaligon’s also chose The Hayes in St David’s to make their Welsh debut. The new store incorporates cutting edge concepts including a fragrance sommelier bar, The Olfactorium, an interactive profiling experience, a Re-Use & Make New service and an engraving station for a fully customisable experience.
About Gaucho
Gaucho came to life through a genuine appreciation of Argentina; its people, their lifestyle, culture and rich food and wine offering. After witnessing first-hand, the gaucho way of life, spending time exploring the pampas region at the foothills of the dramatic, mineral rich mountain ranges, visiting working farms and vineyards, the desire to bring these influences to London was born, and the first Gaucho opened in 1994 in Piccadilly. The collection of restaurants in the UK has grown to twelve in London and six regional sites in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool and Newcastle (opening March 2023). The restaurant group continues to serve some of the finest beef in the world, now complemented by a broader food and wine offering in a contemporary setting, inspired by modern Argentina and all of its global influences.
