Taiwanese milk tea brand Gong Cha has exited the Singapore market, ceasing all operations and closing all outlets across the island as of 1 October.
The closure follows the end of its franchise agreement with local operator Gong Cha Singapore, which had managed the brand’s presence in the market since 2017.
The abrupt closure saw all physical stores closed and the brand’s digital presence, including its website, social media accounts and listings on food delivery platforms, also taken offline.
Gong Cha Singapore CEO, Kang Puay Seng, confirmed the news with local sources and expressed gratitude to customers, staff and business partners.
Despite the shutdown, Gong Cha Global has announced plans to return to Singapore next year. Global CEO Paul Reynish stated the company is in the process of appointing a new master franchisee and will relaunch with its updated ‘Gong Cha 2.0’ store concept, which has already debuted in select international markets.
