The secondhand clothing store operator is set to strengthen its presence in Barcelona this Friday with the opening of its 25th store in the Catalan capital and its 57th nationwide.
The new store boasts a retail space of 210sq m and offers a selection of over 5,000 secondhand clothing items, sourced from citizen donations collected in green containers located on public streets and at the organisation’s own stores. These items are then sorted at Humana’s facility in l’Ametlla del Vallès, in the province of Barcelona. The store is part of the organisation’s “Family” store category, one of the two retail formats it has been developing for the past five years.
“We are committed to opening new stores because we recognise the high potential of textile reuse and maintain profitability even in a challenging environment,” explained Rafael Mas, the operator’s Director of Projects and External Relations. However, he acknowledges that “the sector is currently facing challenges” due to the decline in the quality and durability of garments, which limits their lifespan and reuse potential. In this context, Mas emphasises the entity’s commitment to “physical stores based on genuine used textiles, the result of a professional, traceable model fully oriented towards meeting environmental and social objectives”.
With this opening, Humana consolidates its position in Barcelona, a key city in its growth strategy, while also expanding its physical network across Spain. Over the last decade, the company has significantly increased its retail network in Spain, growing from 36 stores in 2015 to 57 by the end of the current fiscal year. Simultaneously, the number of customers has almost tripled during this period, reflecting the growing acceptance of secondhand fashion among consumers.
