Milk Tea Brands Plot Australian Expansion

Major milk tea brands Gotcha and Chatime have announced plans to expand in Australia over the next few years.

According to Christy Chen, assistant MD of Gotcha, the brand is set to open 20 new stores by the end of the year. The brand, which was launched in 2018, now operates more than 20 stores across the country and intends to expand to Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and Singapore and is also expanding its network in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, rival milk tea brand Chatime said that it will open an additional 29 stores to its existing 126 franchises in Australia this year. Chatime intends to hit 250 stores across the country over the next five years, and also intends to shift to become more environmentally friendly and reduce plastic waste.

Andrew Benefield, Chief Development Officer, commented: “Chatime is currently working on Project Happy Turtle, which aims for us to completely eradicate single-use plastic within our stores across Australia. We’ve tried this through the introduction of reusable bubble-tea cups, as well as paper straws across the network.”
