The Motown Museum in Detroit is taking a significant step forward in its mission to preserve and celebrate the legacy of one of the most influential music labels in history.
Construction of the museum’s latest expansion, a $75M project, will begin in September. Once completed, the new building will significantly enhance the museum’s visitor experience and contribute to the city’s economic and cultural landscape.
This ambitious expansion will create a new 40,000sq ft building featuring state-of-the-art immersive exhibitions, a theatre for performances, recording studios and enhanced retail and dining options. With this latest development, the museum is preparing to attract even more visitors, further solidifying its role as a cultural and tourism landmark in Detroit.
The expansion, which will be built directly behind the museum’s existing buildings on West Grand Boulevard, marks the third phase of the museum’s broader development plan. Previous phases have included the creation of Hitsville NEXT, a space for community-focused engagement programs and a public plaza with a stage for live performances, both of which were completed in recent years. The new building will be a vital addition, helping to transform the museum into a comprehensive cultural campus.
