Hybrid plans, jointly submitted by Cityheart and Wigan Council, to redevelop The Galleries Shopping Centre in Wigan town centre have been granted.

The proposal detailed and outlines plans that covered an array of leisure facilities, including a multimedia centre, which will be home to a multi-screen cinema, a ten-lane bowling alley, food and drink outlets and an indoor mini golf course.

The plans also outlined a pavilion off Market Street that will provide new food and drink establishments and evening entertainment; a new and more central market hall; a new hotel and 464 new homes.

Warren Taylor, Director, Cityheat, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning permission for this important scheme, which will help to significantly rejuvenate the heart of Wigan town centre.”

Meanwhile, Cllr David Molyenux, Leader, Wigan Council, added: “Now more than ever it’s vital we do everything we can to create exciting and welcoming town centres to help support out local businesses and jobs.”

Work is due to start on redeveloping the site in January 2022.
