Shake Shack to Open in Hawaii

Shake Shack Inc. has partnered with Honolulu-based hospitality and retail company Union MAK Corporation to bring the chain to Hawaii, with the first location set to open on Oahu in 2027. The move comes months after the chain, known for burgers, shakes, crinkle-cut fries, fried chicken and more, announced plans for its first store in Oklahoma.

“Bringing Shake Shack to Oahu is more than a tremendous milestone – it’s a heartfelt opportunity to become part of a place where hospitality is a way of life,” said Michael Kark, president of global licensing at Shake Shack. “The spirit of aloha, rooted in generosity, connection, and care for one another, perfectly mirrors the values that have always guided Shake Shack. We’re humbled to be welcomed into such a vibrant, food-loving culture and proud to partner with Union MAK to create a Shack that feels truly local.

At the beginning of the year, Shake Shack said it sees the potential for its company-operated footprint to reach “at least” 1,500 locations over time, an upgrade from its prior target of 450 domestic sites. Shake Shack said it expected to open about 80 to 85 new restaurants this year, including 45 company-operated locations.

“We are so excited to finally bring Shake Shack to Hawaii,” said Vince Espino, president of Union MAK Corporation. “Shake Shack is already very popular with locals who seek out the brand when traveling around the world, so we know it will do very well here with Hawaiians and visitors, alike. We are grateful for our partnership with Shake Shack and admire their commitment to the local communities they serve, giving each location its own unique feel. Union MAK is proud to have been selected to introduce Shake Shack to Hawaii.”

Founded in New York City in 2004, Shake Shack operates over 400 locations in 34 U.S. States and the District of Columbia, and over 225 international locations across London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Mexico City, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo, Seoul and more.
