Starbucks announced that it is deepening its commitment to sustainability with a plan to build 10,000 “greener stores” around the globe by 2025, a move that will encompass new stores and renovations.
The plan follows Starbucks’ pledge to eliminate single-use plastic straws from its stores around the globe by 2020.
Starbucks plans to audit its company-owned stores in the U.S. and Canada.
Since 2001, Starbucks has been working with the U.S. Green Building Council to help develop the LEED for Retail program,
opening up its first LEED, or green-certified store, more than a decade ago. Today there are more than 1,500 LEED-certified Starbucks stores globally.
