Langham Hospitality Group to Manage New Site

The 75-key The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok, will be managed by Langham Hospitality Group and has been conceived as a tranquil urban retreat, balancing understated luxury with a deep connection to its riverside setting and historic surroundings.

That sense of connection carries through to its 60 guestrooms and 15 suites, which will be housed in a contemporary building adjacent to Custom House. Rather than recreating the complex as it was, the approach pays homage to the site’s enduring legacy while giving it renewed purpose for the future. Designed by renowned Thai architect Smith Obayawat, Founder and Principal of OBA, the curvilinear structure reflects the movement of the river and serves as a respectful counterpart to the heritage icon beside it – Custom House as “the grandfather” and the new addition as “the grandson”.

Inside, residential elegance, thoughtful details and modern comfort come together in a design that links past with present. Overlooking peaceful courtyards, the Bangkok skyline or the river gliding alongside the hotel’s grand façade, the accommodations draw on natural textures, soft lighting and subtle Siamese influences to create a warm and quietly refined atmosphere.

Sculptural bathtubs enshrined in brushed metal draw inspiration from precious materials and symbols of prestige, including coinage and gilded finishes, evoking the elegance and prosperity associated with the reign of King Rama V. This narrative continues through geometric etching that references the rhombus mosaic patterns found across Thai temples, traditional architecture and sculpture and through bespoke decorative lighting that subtly reinterprets royal emblems and ceremonial weaponry.

These references are further developed in the suites to convey the heightened grandeur associated with Thai nobility. Together, they create a sophisticated dialogue between heritage and contemporary craftsmanship, balanced by The Langham’s signature palette and modern amenities.

The new addition will also house a Chuan Spa and a state-of-the-art fitness centre featuring Technogym’s luxury Sandstone collection – the first installation of its kind in Asia.
