Athar, a new Emirati dining venue in Mirdif City Centre, aims to celebrate local culinary heritage with a diverse menu and traditional décor, reflecting community values.
The Dubai dining scene is increasingly highlighting the UAE’s rich culinary heritage, with Athar being the latest addition to this burgeoning trend.
Located at Chef’s Society in City Centre Mirdif, this new all-day Emirati dining and specialty coffee restaurant aims to celebrate and reinterpret traditional Emirati culture through its offerings and ambiance.
The name Athar, derived from the Arabic term for “imprint”, encapsulates the restaurant’s commitment to exploring how heritage shapes modern Emirati identity.
The new establishment draws inspiration from the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose values of community, hospitality and cultural identity remain relevant today.
The decor reflects traditional Emirati architecture, incorporating elements such as the dekka, a bench that historically facilitated gatherings and interactions in neighbourhoods. Central to Athar’s mission is its diverse menu, which showcases the depth and richness of Emirati cuisine.
The culinary offerings are designed to represent various aspects of Emirati food culture, including dishes typically enjoyed at family gatherings and major celebrations, as well as everyday recipes passed down through generations. This focus on authenticity is likely to resonate with both locals and visitors seeking genuine Emirati experiences.
The restaurant also aims to elevate Emirati coffee traditions within a contemporary café framework, recognising coffee as a vital component of hospitality in Emirati culture.
Athar plans to fuse these social customs with modern café culture to enhance the overall dining experience. Although an official opening date has not yet been announced, Athar is poised to become a significant venue for those eager to appreciate Emirati cuisine and hospitality in a modern setting.
