The Maison celebrates its official arrival in China with a special experience dedicated to Borsalino savoir-faire and a Limited Edition exclusively unveiled in Shanghai.
Borsalino opens its first permanent boutique in Greater China at Plaza 66 Shanghai, marking an important milestone in the Maison’s international development and strengthening its presence in one of the world’s most dynamic and strategic luxury markets.
The boutique was officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mauro Baglietto, Managing Director of Borsalino; Alec Hou, CEO of Essence Group; Stefania Mortelliti, Commercial Consul at the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai; Fabio de Cillis, Director of the Italian Trade Agency and Wendy Zhou, Deputy General Manager of Plaza 66, alongside prominent figures from the worlds of entertainment and culture.
“The opening of our first boutique in Greater China represents much more than a new address for Borsalino,” says Mauro Baglietto. “It marks the beginning of a long-term journey built on trust, quality and respect for local culture. We bring to Shanghai a heritage shaped by almost 170 years of history, but above all a contemporary and international vision of Borsalino, one that expresses an authentic Italian lifestyle through the hat.”
Coinciding with the opening, from 22nd to 27th August 2026, the atrium of Plaza 66 hosts the Borsalino Experience, a temporary space inviting visitors to discover the world of the Maison. A selection of hats from the Borsalino Museum of Alessandria historical archive, presented in China for the first time, is displayed alongside the current collections, tracing a journey between the heritage of the Alessandria-based Maison and its contemporary expressions.
The savoir-faire of Borsalino’s historic Manufactory comes directly to Shanghai through the presence of Borsalino master hatmakers from Italy, who introduce guests to some of the gestures and techniques passed down through generations, while also offering an exclusive personalisation experience. An opportunity to discover first-hand the expertise that has defined Borsalino since 1857, expressed through the manual skill, knowledge and value of time behind the making of every hat.
