The openings are now set to include the off-price retailers return to downtown San Francisco with a location on Stockton Street, near Union Square. The 51,500sq ft store will be located in a building owned and managed by Invesco Real Estate.
San Francisco has been without a traditional Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack location since 2023, when the company closed its flagship in Westfield San Francisco Centre, as well as its Rack store on Market Street. (In November, it opened a Nordstrom Local location in the city’s Pacific Heights neighbourhood.)
“Nordstrom has a long history in San Francisco and we’re excited to bring Nordstrom Rack back downtown said Erik Nordstrom, co-CEO of Nordstrom. “The city has many wonderful assets and it has clearly built momentum in making downtown a great place for customers.”
Nordstrom Rack’s decision to return to downtown San Francisco comes as the area, which struggled with vacant storefronts and declining business activity in the wake of the Covid pandemic, is experiencing the beginning of a turnaround. Earlier this month, Uniqlo opened a two-floor, 20,315sq ft flagship on Market Street, on the site of a former Old Navy store. The opening came some five years after the retailer shuttered its downtown San Francisco store.
In addition to San Francisco, Nordstrom Rack recently announced the locations of two other fall 2027 openings, including a 25,000sq ft store at Dunham Pointe, in Cypress, Texas. The centre is owned and managed by Trademark Property Company.
