Al Maktoum International Airport Expansion Stays on Track

Work on the first phase of Al Maktoum International Airport has crossed 10 million work hours over the past 15 months, as Dubai pushes ahead with the expansion of what is planned to become the world’s largest aviation hub.

The first phase of the airport’s development remains on track to begin operations in 2032, according to Dubai Media Office.

Contracts worth AED13bn are currently under execution, while strategic project contracts valued at more than AED55bn are expected to be awarded in the coming months.

The airport is being developed to handle more than 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of air cargo annually when complete. The project will include five parallel runways, two passenger terminals, seven concourses and 430 aircraft stands.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE said: “Work on the Al Maktoum International Airport expansion continues according to the approved timeline, with Phase 1 scheduled to begin operations in 2032. Contracts worth AED13bn are currently being executed and more than 10 million work hours have been completed over the past 15 months. Strategic project contracts exceeding AED55bn are set to be awarded in the coming months. The airport is being developed to handle more than a quarter of a billion passengers annually, supporting Dubai’s long-term economic growth. Under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s major projects continue to advance with steady progress and confidence.”
