Blue Bottle Coffee Opens in Harajuku

The company has launched a flagship location in Harajuku as it continues to refine its store format in Japan.

Located in Jingumae near Cat Street, the store covers around 83sq m with seating for 26. It is designed by Teki Design and blends a stainless-steel exterior with reflective interiors that draw in the surrounding streetscape, echoing Harajuku’s visually driven retail character.

The layout moves away from high-throughput service. Seating and spatial design encourage longer dwell times, signalling a more experience-led approach rather than a purely transactional model.

According to the brand, while labelled a flagship, the opening appears to focus more on format testing than expansion. The store introduces new beverage offerings, including an updated cold brew, as well as seasonal drinks and a curated food selection tailored to the local market.

Blue Bottle Coffee entered Japan in 2015 with its first store in Kiyosumi, Tokyo. The brand now operates around 30 locations, concentrated mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
