The group has renamed its Tesco stores across Southeast Asia to Lotus’s, officially marking the end of the Tesco brand in the region.
As part of the rebranding process, CP Group has unveiled a completely new design for two former Tesco stores – Lotus Ekamai-Ramindra Express and Lotus Ekachai branch 99. The stores feature a new logo and new store design with a colour palette of pastel green, yellow and white.
The name Lotus’s comes from the previous branding – Tesco Lotus – as many locals have called the supermarket chain ‘Lotus’ for a long time. The ‘S’ at the end of the name connotes ‘Smart’ as the new store format boasts a new ‘smart shopping experience’ that will be promoted once the new brand is launched.
Furthermore, the mini supermarket chain Tesco Lotus Express will also be rebranded to Lotus Go Fresh.
The move comes following the $10.6bn acquisition of Tesco’s Asian operations in Thailand and Malaysia last year.
