The retailer is committing to providing access to food resources in rural and underserved communities.

The discount retailer already offers fresh produce in more than 1,300 stores and has revealed plans to expand this offering to more than 10,000 locations, including a ‘meaningful’ number of stores across the US located in United States Department of Agriculture define food deserts. The move comes following Dollar General’s new partnership with Feeding America, to provide access to food products in rural and underserved communities.

The partnership includes a $1M donation, as well as in kind donations of perishable, nutritious foods. Alongside weekly collections, the partnership will provide customers with the opportunity for Feeding America and local food banks to collect food items during crisis times.
