This award was presented to a centre that demonstrates innovation in its renovation
through architecture and design, how it has contributed to the overall regeneration of
the town, city or area, its contribution to the local community and the steps it has taken
to reimagine the shopping experience, whilst improving sustainability.
HAYAT MALL, RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA
The Hayat Mall is located on King Abdul-Aziz Road in a highly populated area which is home to a large amount of commercial
and architectural activity and is a main shopping area for most of the local residents. Spread across an area of 150,000sq
m, the mall is home to more than 400 shops on an area of 90,032sq m of GLA and parking spaces that can accommodate
up to 2,458 cars. The idea behind this renovation was to create the best destination and best possible experience for visitors
to the mall. Elements of interest in this project are the new design work that supports the opportunities for social gather-
ings, transforming the mall into an unexpected urban experience and re-activating cold circulation zones and creating new
use areas.

ALANDALUS MALL
JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA
Considered as one of the most important cen-
tres of attraction for tourism in the city of Jed-
dah, the Alandalus Mall is located on prince Ma-
jed road and has a built-up area of 145,000sq
m. The mall has around 398 shops with more
than 94,000sq m of GLA and parking space
that accommodates for more than 2,033 cars.
The main goal of the renovation was to cre-
ate a destination and an experience that was
based on new strategies in malls all around the
globe due to the rising importance of environ-
mental conditions and climate needs. Another
key goal of the renovation was to transform the
mall from an indoor theme to an outdoor urban
experience. Meanwhile, creating strong connec-
tions between the street and the shops was also
imperative in their thinking.
