Gap Inc. has signed a strategic partnership with Chalhoub Group to expand Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta across the GCC, with online launches beginning this year and physical stores set to follow in 2027.
The agreement will combine Gap Inc.’s global brand portfolio with Chalhoub Group’s retail network, regional consumer knowledge and digital capabilities. The first stage will see the three American brands launch online across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during the remainder of this year.
A wider network of physical stores is then expected to open across the region next year, although the companies have not disclosed the number or locations of the planned outlets. The deal marks a significant regional push for Gap Inc., which operates the Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta brands.
Gap is known for casual American fashion and denim, while Banana Republic occupies a more premium lifestyle position. Athleta specialises in women’s activewear and performance clothing.
David Vercruysse, President of Managed Companies at Chalhoub Group, said the partnership offered considerable long-term growth potential in the GCC. “This collaboration represents an opportunity of great potential and long-term vision: to amplify the cultural presence of the Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta brands across the GCC,” Vercruysse said.
He added that Chalhoub Group would use its understanding of regional consumers, cultural trends and digital retail to support the expansion. Further projects between the two companies are already planned for the second half of this year.
The partnership comes as Gap Inc. attempts to build renewed momentum around its best-known brands and increase their relevance among younger consumers.
