The luxury menswear business Gieves & Hawkes, owned by Frasers Group, has announced the reopening of its historic flagship at No 1 Savile Row.
This comes after a major refurbishment that the company said “brings renewed energy to one of the most important streets in British menswear”. The store has been home to the brand for generation and will continue to offer the bespoke, made-to-measure, ready-to-wear and military collection and services that it has done for years.
The 7,000sq ft space has been designed by Argent Design “with a clear focus on preserving the character and heritage of the Grade II listed building while creating a more contemporary and welcoming environment for clients”.
MD Jason Gerrard said the history of the brand meant it was “important that this refurbishment felt like an evolution rather than a reinvention. It celebrates what makes the house distinctive; British craftsmanship, exceptional tailoring and genuine integrity, while recognising our responsibility as custodians to preserve those values for the next generation”.
In practice that means the preservation and enhancement of original architectural details, including traditional wall panelling and beading, refinished timber floors and a new Portland stone entrance floor in a “historically appropriate” keystone pattern.
