Customers usually go into a Krispy Kreme to get some fresh doughnuts.
But the new Krispy Kreme on Cumberland Avenue by the University of Tennessee campus is the first in North America to offer ice cream – including homespun milkshakes or scoop sandwiches, the latter of which includes glazed doughnuts on the outside.
Other cold treats include frozen lattes and lemon and strawberry “chillers.” And, of course, the famous coffee and even-more-famous doughnuts include some special ones highlighting the store’s proximity to UT.
Free doughnuts at grand opening

The store held its grand opening on Dec. 7 right as UT exams were taking place, and it turned out that Hodges Library wasn’t the only place where students were pulling all-nighters.
In a fun promotion, students – and others – camped out to get free doughnuts over the next year.
