Elstree Studios has confirmed plans for a new immersive visitor experience celebrating its film and television heritage, with an anticipated opening in December 2026.
The £2M development will be located in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire and is intended to mark more than a century of continuous production at one of the UK’s most recognisable studio complexes.
Elstree has played a central role in British and international screen culture, hosting productions ranging from long-running television series to globally recognised feature films. The new experience will formalise that legacy into a permanent attraction, expanding the studio’s role beyond production into heritage-led visitor engagement.
Rather than adopting a conventional museum model, the Elstree Immersive Experience has been conceived as a walk-through attraction. Visitors will move through a sequence of environments that use sound, visuals, physical sets and sensory elements to interpret the studio’s history and its role in global filmmaking.
Plans include interactive storytelling, live performance components and constructed immersive settings that reference different eras of production. This approach reflects a broader shift within heritage attractions towards experiential interpretation, where narrative, participation and atmosphere are prioritised alongside artefacts and archival material.
