The sporting goods retail giant has just unveiled its “reconquest plan” for the Spanish market and plans to open around ten stores by 2027 as well as renovate existing outlets.
The French parent company intends to strengthen its growth and meet the expectations of local consumers, according to a press release. This strategy in the Iberian Peninsula is part of “the Intersport Group’s regional consolidation dynamic”, in a context of “restructuring of the Iberian market, affected by the difficulties encountered by the former Spanish headquarters”.
Following the operation carried out last November, Intersport France regained control of its entire Southern Europe division, which encompasses the French, Belgian, Spanish and Portuguese markets. “This new responsibility reflects our ambition to make Intersport a leading player in a strategic region of the European sports market, building on the strength of our model and the collective strength of our team,” stated Gérard Leclerc, President of the company for these four countries. Arnaud Fondon, a director of Intersport France, is responsible for the Spanish market.
This integration was accompanied by the creation of an Iberian subsidiary, tasked with reviving growth, optimising operations and managing the development of the brand’s retail network in Spain and Portugal, “drawing on certain assets and employees from the former Spanish headquarters”, the French parent company emphasises.
