Bezos will be joined by his brother Mark on next month’s first crewed flight launched by his Blue Origin rocket firm.
Blue Origin will launch its first crewed flight of the company’s New Shepard capsule next month. The company is currently auctioning off the third spot for the flight, and the bidding is already at $2.8M with nearly 6,000 participants from 143 countries bidding.
The trip will last for a total of 10 minutes, four of which will be spent above the Karman line, which is the recognised boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and space. After lift-off, the capsule separates from its booster then spends four minutes at an altitude that exceeds 100km. During this four minutes, guests on board will experience weightlessness.
Taking to Instagram, Jeff Bezos said: “Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of travelling to space. On July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother.
New Shepard has successfully run over a dozen un-crewed test runs and the proceeds from the auction will go to Blue Origin’s foundation, Club for the Future.
