Japanese indoor amusement park operator Joypolis Sports is set to open its first overseas flagship site in Hong Kong as part of its broader international expansion efforts.

The new theme park, situated in Kai Tak Sports Park, will span five storeys and feature various entertainment options that integrate technology and interactive experiences.

Takeshi Yoshimoto, President of CA Sega Joypolis, said the decision to open its first flagship outside Japan is a strategic move to expand the brand’s global presence. “The choice of Kai Tak Sports Park, with its prime location and state-of-the-art facilities, aligns with our goal of delivering a new level of indoor sports and entertainment to the Hong Kong market,” said Yoshimoto.

Joypolis Hong Kong will feature three distinct themed areas: Ninja Dojo, Sonic Stadium and Future Arena. Ninja Dojo will combine traditional Japanese ninja elements with a modern Ninja Warrior concept, offering visitors a chance to engage in physical challenges. The Sonic Stadium is dedicated to Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog character and will provide family-friendly activities, such as a trampoline area and a sports competition themed around Sonic. The Future Arena combines sports and entertainment. For example, it has a “Valo Arena”, which uses mixed reality to create an immersive sports gaming experience.

Meanwhile, the top floor of the facility will include a restaurant and bar, “Hungry Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” designed to complement the sports and entertainment offerings of the venue. The dining area will offer a menu that includes both Western and Japanese dishes, with options catering to various dietary preferences.
