London’s Largest Food Hall Opens in Leicester Square

A vast new food hall is opening this December in the heart of London’s West End. Market Place Leicester Square will take over a landmark five-storey building beside the Odeon cinema, bringing one of the largest and most ambitious food hall experiences the UK has ever seen.

The new flagship will showcase the Market Place formula on its biggest stage yet. Sixteen independent kitchens will serve up flavours from across the globe, each run by a different trader bringing their own signature style.

Three standalone bars will keep the drinks flowing, from fast-pour cocktails at street level to pint-sized cocktails enjoyed on the balcony.

This is more than a place to eat. A dedicated events room will feature a huge screen showing the biggest sports games and major cultural moments. The weekly programme will also include comedy nights, live music and DJ sets, designed to keep the energy high and the venue buzzing long after office hours.

Private dining rooms will be available for groups and special occasions, creating a space that works just as well for after-work drinks as it does for birthdays, celebrations and VIP gatherings.

With Leicester Square home to world famous cinemas and red carpet premieres, the venue, once operated by Raymond Blanc and later home to Chiquito, is perfectly placed to host film fans and visiting stars looking for a spot away from the spotlight.

Blake Henderson, Managing Director at Market Place Food Halls, said: “We started Market Place with one neighbourhood site in Peckham and in a few short years it has grown across the city. Leicester Square is the biggest leap forward yet. It is one of the most famous squares in the world and we are proud to bring our biggest Market Place yet right to the heart of the West End.

“This flagship is everything Market Place stands for. Incredible food, great drinks, live entertainment and a space where Londoners and visitors can celebrate together.”

Market Place Leicester Square will sit at the centre of one of the most vibrant parts of London. Leicester Square is famous worldwide for its cinemas, red carpet premieres and constant crowds of both Londoners and international visitors. The arrival of Market Place adds a huge new dining and drinking option to an area already buzzing from morning to late night.

The flagship follows the success of Market Place’s growing portfolio of venues in St Pauls, Vauxhall, Harrow and Peckham. Each location has built a reputation for curating independent street food traders, serving up craft drinks and hosting regular events from DJs and comedy nights to pop-ups and screenings.

Since first opening in 2020, Market Place Food Halls has carved out a unique space in the capital. Its food halls are more than just places to grab a quick bite. They are designed as destinations where food, drink and culture collide. Leicester Square will take that formula further than ever before.
