The men and women’s apparel brand known for its soft fabrics and relaxed West Coast aesthetic has opened two limited-time stores focused on customisation.
Marine Layer’s new pop-ups – The Patch Bar in the Nolita section of downtown Manhattan and The Custom Club on Fillmore Street in San Francisco – will be open through mid-January. Both offer personalisation experiences, complete with exclusive patches, chain-stitch embroidery and limited-edition designs.
At each location, customers can personalise the brand’s tees, fleece and cashmere pieces with over 70 in-house-designed patches, including playful icons, travel-inspired motifs and Marine Layer originals.
Each space reflects its city’s distinct character. Rooted in Marine Layer’s hometown of San Francisco, The Custom Club captures the brand’s California cool with soft, curved design lines and colour-drenched walls. Designed entirely in-house, the space invites customers to feel the brand’s signature comfort through tactile materials such carpet, limewash and painted wood.
“I founded Marine Layer over 15 years ago to remake my old favourite shirt,” said Mike Natenshon, CEO and Co-Founder of Marine Layer. “Everyone’s favourite is unique to them. So much of the market is uniform and the same as everything else, we wanted to give people an opportunity to stand out a bit.”
