Muji Unveils Tenth Store in New York City

The Japanese lifestyle retailer Muji is expanding its presence in New York City by making its debut in a new borough.

Muji, which sells a variety of products including household goods, apparel items, wellness products and more, has made its Queens debut with the opening of a new store at Tangram in the Flushing neighbourhood on 12 June. Spanning 12,000sq ft, the store will anchor the two-level, 1.2 million square feet mixed-use retail centre.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate this opening weekend with the Flushing community and officially introduce Muji to Queens,” said Richard Rappaport, President of Muji USA. “From the very beginning, Muji has been more than just a retail destination. We want to be embedded in the energy and culture that make Tangram and Flushing so special. We look forward to welcoming new and loyal customers and building lasting relationships within this community through future events and experiences.”

Founded in 1980, Muji operates more than 1,000 stores worldwide. According to its website, it currently has none other stores in New York City, along with two in Massachusetts and one in Oregon.

In addition to offering more than 7,000 products, the new Muji store in Queens will offer distinctive services and in-store experiences, including an expanded offering of the brand’s personalisation program, Muji Yourself. Guests are able to customise apparel, accessories, stationary and more through embroidery and iron-on patch applications featuring more than 300 designs.

Muji Tangram will be the first store to debut the brand’s partnership with Object Sangga, a South Korea-based retail and lifestyle DIY brand known for its handcrafted embroidered patches.
