New Whitewater Project Accounced for Montgomery, Alabama

Cloward H₂O, experts in aquatic design, is working on the new Montgomery Whitewater Center, a 120-acre site that will be situated in downtown Montgomery.

The centre is expected to open in Summer 2023, and it will feature whitewater rapids that wind through shops and restaurants as well as other attractions such as a zip line tower. Other plans include an outdoor performance venue, a hotel and a conference centre.

The project was first approved in 2019 and construction started in summer 2021. When complete, the facility will feature two separate river channels that will provide an Olympic standard course and a dynamic recreation channel bringing whitewater rafting to an accessible location. As well as the whitewater rafting, visitors can enjoy climbing, zip lines, mountain biking, rope courses and more.

The rapids will include 10,000,000 gallons of surging whitewater and Allen Clawson, Principal, Cloward H₂O, said: “This is not your typical. The structural, waterproofing, and mechanical systems employed to manage and contain the 10,000,000 gallons of very active wear are somewhat complex, as you can imagine.”
