PureGym continues International Expansion with £235m Deal for Swiss group

PureGym Group has agreed a deal to acquire a low-cost fitness chain in Switzerland for £235m as part of its international expansion plans.

NonStop Gym (NSG) brings a further 47 sites into the group.

PureGym said the acquisition would bring together two highly complementary gym networks. The combined business will have more than 100 gyms in Switzerland by the end of 2026.

The acquisition follows PureGym’s purchase of Blink Fitness in the US in 2024. It forms part of the group’s commitment to expanding its presence in attractive international fitness markets and building market leading positions.

PureGym intends to retain NSG’s established operational capabilities and team, while providing access to the resources, investment capacity and experience of a larger international fitness group. NSG will be rebranded as PureGym in due course.

Alex Wood, chief executive at PureGym, said: “We have long admired NSG and their team, who have built an excellent business, with market leading performance and member satisfaction. This acquisition makes a lot of sense for PureGym strategically, financially and for our members.

“The combination of NSG’s network in French and Italian speaking Switzerland and our own in German speaking regions will create a truly national operator, uniquely placed to serve Swiss gym goers and expand further, giving more people an opportunity to train in a high quality, affordable gym.

“This acquisition is an important step in PureGym’s international growth strategy and demonstrates our continued ambition to invest in attractive markets where we believe we can build strong, sustainable businesses. We look forward to welcoming the NSG team and building the next chapter together.”

PureGym is headquartered in Leeds. The group is majority owned by Leonard Green & Partners, LP and in December 2021 KKR became a significant minority investor.

The business operates across six markets, including the UK (467 gyms), Denmark (128 gyms) Switzerland (49 gyms), the US (61 gyms) and in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates with its franchise partner (23 gyms).
