Attendance at the reopened locations will be capped at between 25 to 50 per cent of their total capacity.
After a six month closure period and an operating loss of $2bn, Regal Cinemas will finally begin reopening cinemas this month. The cinema chain currently operates 7,211 locations across 42 states. Following the outbreak of the pandemic, Warner Bros. announced that it would release all of its 2021 films simultaneously in theatres an on HBO. After this, Cineworld (Regal’s owners) made an agreement to abide by this earlier pledge and will be opening theatres and showing Warner Bros. pictures.
Cineworld has secured new liquidity in the form of a $213M convertible bond and that it expected a $200M US Cares Act tax refund.
Cineworld Chief Executive Officer, Mooky Greiginder, commented: “I never imaged a time that we would see the closure of our entire cinema estate. I am immensely proud and inspired by the response of our people to these very difficult circumstances.”
