A celebration of timeless British design, The Londoner Macao is set to recreate London’s classic shopping districts and feature British themed boutiques. Here, RLI sits down with David Sylvester, Executive Vice President of Global Retail at Las Vegas Sands Corporation to discuss the newest addition to Sands Resorts Macao.

In line with its existing destination-themed properties, The Londoner Macao is set to be the third themed destination at Sands Resorts Macao where visitors will feel like they are visiting a European country.

The upcoming site will feature authentic recreations of classic British landmarks, with an exterior façade modelled on the world-famous Palace of Westminster and Houses of Parliament complete with a 96m tall Elizabeth Tower.

The interiors will offer a combination of grandeur and comfort, with luxurious British design extending to the spacious Crystal Palace atrium centrepiece, restaurants, retail offerings and entertainment. The resort will also feature two new hotels – Londoner Court with approximately 370 luxury suites and The Londoner Hotel with approximately 600 suites.

“Construction work on the conversion of Sands Cotai Central in the new integrated resort The Londoner Macao is continuing,” explains David Sylvester, Executive Vice President of Global Retail at Las Vegas Sands Corporation. “We expect the Londoner Court suites to be completed late this year, and overall The Londoner Macao integrated resort project to be delivered in phases throughout 2020 and 2021. Most recently we have had sections of Shoppes at Londoner unveiled giving our customers a glimpse of the distinguished and very British look and feel of the precinct.”

With this new project, the company is looking to enhance the retail mix at Shoppes at Londoner by offering a lot more entertainment and lifestyle brands. They plan to introduce more UK content by opening a number of London high street outlets to complement their existing UK retailers, like Marks and Spencer and leading lifestyle anchors such as Apple.

F&B will be another key aspect in the project, with a number of new restaurants to be available, including North Palace offering traditional yet contemporary cuisine from

Northern China, The Mews featuring authentic Thai food, Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill and a unique dessert experience at Churchill’s Table.

The Londoner Macao is set to bring all things British to Macao, allowing guests to be transported to London to experience its rich history and contemporary excitement. It will add another iconic global destination to the international mix already on offer and give guests the opportunity to feel they have enjoyed a truly great British visit.

“Connectivity and accessibility are pivotal. It is all about making the customer journey as seamless and enjoyable as we can. It ensures our guests can travel through the whole integrated resort and visit all of our malls, the Shoppes at Londoner, Shoppes at Venetian, Shoppes at Parisian and Shoppes at Four Seasons, without ever having to step outside,” comments Sylvester.

As the name suggests, the scheme celebrates the magic and magnificence of London. The interior design was derived from ancient classical architecture and palaces of historic England. It will offer an authentic yet contemporary upscale British hospitality experience for discerning guests, invoking the essence of London’s heritage and legacy.

The project also represents Sands China Ltd.’s latest collaboration with David Beckham, who has been working with a leading London interior design firm to bring his vision and style to the very exclusive top floor suites at The Londoner Hotel, representing his first foray into the design field. “David Beckham is a renowned British sporting icon and international businessman and has been a Sands Resort Macao global ambassador for some time, hence was the ideal choice when it came to The Londoner Macao. The David Beckham Suites are the first celebrity designed suites in Macao,” Sylvester says.

As a themed destination location, social media is really important for The Londoner Macao. It will allow retailers to showcase latest trends, ranges and serves as an excellent medium to communicate with their customers before, during and after their visit.

Sylvester feels that the key to the success of its group of destinations is that they provide an experience like no other, offering a seamless experience that allows guests to create memorable moments before returning home and telling their friends about it all the while looking at planning their next trip.

At the moment the key priorities for the business are to reactivate all of its malls in Macao as the tourism market begins to return. This is especially important for this upcoming project as they are not only reconnecting their existing customers to thee properties that they know and love, but also introducing new and exciting concepts.

“We are extremely excited that we can soon share this new project with our customers and bring these new platforms and ideas to life,” Sylvester concludes.
