Procter & Gamble-owned SK-II has opened its new concept store in Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with Singaporean beauty distributor, Luxasia.
Located in the Malaysian capital’s Mid Valley Megamall, the new 585sq ft store pays homage to the heritage of the Japanese skincare brand, promoting its Pitera proprietary natural bio-ingredient that is derived from fermentation. Inside, the store design boasts a minimalist aesthetic made from nature-inspired materials, with licks of deep red in reference to the luxury brand’s logo.
Visitors will find a product discovery area, designed to celebrate the craftsmanship behind Pitera, and a product tester bar held up by rounded shapes inspired by sugidama balls. The shop counter surfaces mimic patterns arranged in rice by Toji masters, while displaying exclusive ceramic pieces by artists from Shiga, where Pitera was conceived in Japan.
Finally, the new immersive SK-II store offers shoppers its new ‘skin ceremony’, or a series of rituals carried out by brand experts that was inspired by the spirit of omotenashi, or wholehearted hospitality.
“More than a retail store, we want to provide a sanctuary for [people] to switch off from the world and immerse in the miracle world of Pitera,” said Sue Kyung Lee, President, P&G Global Skin and Personal Care, adding that the store opening is “a momentous milestone for the house of SK-II”.
