Skechers Kids opens at Shanghai Disney Resort

Opened on October 20 and located in the center of the Disneytown shopping district, the 2,777 square-foot flagship is the first Skechers retail location at a Disney resort property, and is the largest stand-alone Skechers Kids store in China, the brand said.

Inside, shoppers can find a wide range of the brand’s children’s collections, including light-up styles, athletic sneakers, and an adult area with coordinated parent-child styles and clothing.“Adding Disneytown to our portfolio is a seminal moment for our retail business,” said Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers.

“Our footwear and apparel collections for boys and girls are filled with innovation and fun styles that continue to resonate within China and around the globe. This unique Skechers Kids store illustrates how we adapt to a location so that we can connect with consumers in new and exciting ways to elevate the shopping experience.”

The Disneytown store joins over 1,000 Skechers retail locations in China. According to a press statement, over 11 million people visit the Shanghai Disney Resort annually.

“Moving forward, we expect to leverage the power and value of this location as a showpiece for our children’s collections,” said Willie Tan, chief executive officer of Skechers China Limited, the company’s joint venture. Local Chinese consumers and international tourists love the range of footwear and apparel that Skechers offers for boys and girls, and destination flagship stores like this one create wonderful shopping experiences that keep the Skechers brand in their minds as they visit one of the happiest places on earth.”

Just days after the store’s opening, Skechers reported record third-quarter sales and improved earnings with particularly strong growth seen in its international business, which has operations in countries including Germany, the UK, Spain, India, the U.A.E., China, Russia and Japan, and posted a 21.9% increase in sales (25.7% in constant currencies). The company further reported a 15.1% rise in total sales to $1.35 billion, up from $1.18 billion in the prior-year period.

Currently, Skechers operates over 3,300 locations worldwide, including flagship locations in New York, London and Tokyo.
