British luxury lifestyle brand Smythson is delighted to announce the opening of a new flagship store on New York’s Madison Avenue, marking 25 years since Smythson opened its first standalone store in New York.
This opening marks a key moment in Smythson’s international growth strategy, with the US being Smythson’s second-largest market outside the home market, we are delighted to be bringing bricks-and-mortar shopping back to New York. The location on Madison Avenue was carefully selected as a world-renowned luxury shopping destination, making this address the perfect setting for bringing the flagship experience to both our New York-based customers and international travellers.
Smythson is delighted to have partnered with award-winning architectural design studio Johnson Pinney Architects to develop the 1,400-square-foot space. 575 Madison Avenue features an entirely new design concept, conceived to showcase the Smythson’s two harmonious worlds of leather and paper. The boutique houses our signature selection of diaries, notebooks, stationery, business and travel accessories, games and homeware.
Natural, high-quality finishes are used throughout the space, with curved wall panels defining each zone. The boutique features handcrafted joinery throughout, utilising European oak, carefully selected for its character and consistent grain. A statement curved book wall, detailed in brushed brass, creates a central focal point for the store, celebrating Smythson’s iconic notebooks and diaries.
The store also features a dedicated bespoke stationery salon, the only one outside of London, where customers can enjoy a one-on-one bespoke appointment with one of our highly skilled stationery specialists. Our bespoke consultants will be on hand to advise on commissions ranging from personal stationery and business cards to wedding invitations and holiday cards. Customers can also enjoy in-store personalisation, where our artisan craftspeople will be able to gold-stamp diaries, notebooks and leather styles with initials, as well as a range of playful motifs.
Smythson has collaborated with multidisciplinary studio Fung + Bedford, who have created a large-scale installation suspended from the ceiling. Having trained with origami masters, the artwork has been hand-folded to create two feather-like forms, inspired by the watermark found on Smythson’s featherweight paper.
