Starbucks Targets Rapid India Growth

The company plans to open up to 100 stores a year in India as it ramps up expansion in one of its fastest-growing markets worldwide.

The business sees significant growth opportunities, despite coffee remaining a relatively small category in the tea-dominated country.

The joint venture between Starbucks and Tata Group currently operates more than 500 stores across India and accounts for about 30 per cent of the country’s organised coffee market. The company plans to add between 50 and 100 outlets annually as it expands its footprint.

Dash described India as “one of the fastest-growing markets for Starbucks globally”, noting that the chain has more than doubled its store count in the country over the past four to five years.

The expansion comes as coffee consumption continues to rise among younger and urban consumers, attracting growing competition from both local and international players.
