Street Burger, created by Michelin-star chef Gordon Ramsay, is set to open in Hyundai Department Store in southern Seoul.
The casual burger joint was founded in 2020 by the British celebrity chef and the Seoul restaurant will be the first global location outside of the UK and the first in Asia. Preparing to open by late March this year in the department store’s Samseong-dong branch of southern Seoul, the restaurant will offer customers a menu of fries, drinks and seven types of burgers, including a Korea-special burger. Called ‘The Korean Smash Burger’, this special dish is made with kimchi and bacon.
Korea’s market for burgers had grown by nearly 30 per cent from 2015 to 2020 and is expected to reach five trillion won in 2023, as such global burger chains have been opening stores in South Korea as the dish gains popularity amongst the younger demographic.
Galleria Department store has joined together with US burger chain Five Guys with plans to open the first Five Guys restaurant in Seoul this year.
