Superdry continues its retail expansion. The British fashion brand will focus on the United Kingdom and Europe in the coming months, where it plans to open the doors of up to 21 new stores. In Spain, the company plans to increase its presence in El Corte Inglés with the launch of its women’s line.
Julian Dunkerton, founder and CEO of the British urban fashion company, explained to Drapers that fifteen of the 21 new stores will be located in the UK, in cities such as Bath, Dundee, Lincoln, Norwich and Sheffield.
In Europe, the executive has set new openings in Berlin, Germany, and Utrecht (Holland). In the Spanish market, Superdry will also increase its presence in El Corte Inglés with the launch of its women’s line. Currently, the company operates in the department store only with its men’s offer.
Superdry divides its sales into 38% in womenswear and the remaining 68% in menswear. However, the company has highlighted that the women’s segment aimed to overtake men’s by next August, and has put the focus on Generation Z and Alpha consumers.
The company, which acquired the Bench license for the UK last November, put a retail expansion plan on the table last December, landing in Argentina with five stores in Buenos Aires.
The group ended its last full year, ending April 2025, with sales of 374.6 million pounds ($499 million), down 23.3% on the previous year. Despite the drop in the British company’s sales, the year-end also marked its return to profit: if at the end of the previous year the company had lost 50.8 million pounds ($67.7 million), it ended the last period with a gain of 33.3 million pounds ($44.4 million).
