Tech Marketplace Makes Physical Debut

Back Market has entered brick-and-mortar, as the resale market continues to expand across categories.

The online retailer of verified refurbished electronics is making its retail debut with a limited-time pilot store in Manhattan’s SoHo neighbourhood. The store invites shoppers to see, touch and test refurbished devices and also offers repair services, workshops and events designed to make sustainability practical rewarding and easy to act on.

“The Back Market SoHo store is about showing what’s possible,” said Thibaud Hug de Larauze, Co-Founder and CEO of Back Market. “When people experience refurbished tech in person, they see the quality, the savings and the potential to live smarter. We believe this pilot can spark real trust and momentum for a more sustainable way forward.”

Founded in Paris in 2014, Back Market said it has grown by double digits year over year. To date, more than 30 million refurbished devices have been sold on Back Market across 17 markets, avoiding approximately two billion kilograms of carbon emissions.

“For decades, the tech industry has spent billions to drive an “upgrade now” consumer mindset,” Back Market said. “But the reality is different: As inflation, tariffs and rising tech prices make shoppers increasingly cost-conscious, refurbished tech offers a smarter path forward.”
