The flagship brand of retail giant Inditex is strengthening its presence in the South Korean market with a new large-scale store.
Zara has opened a new flagship in the Gangnam district, one of Seoul’s foremost commercial and business hubs, bringing together its womenswear and menswear collections alongside exclusive services and a new Zacaffè space created specifically for this location.
Spanning more than 2,100sq m over three floors, the new space showcases a retail concept that fuses fashion, architecture, art and technology. Designed by Zara’s in-house architecture team, the project marries contemporary design with Korean cultural identity, creating interlinked volumes and distinct atmospheres for each collection.
The interior pairs stone, wood, concrete and metal in a restrained material palette, harnessing natural light and sculptural forms to create an open, welcoming environment. A key feature is Imugi, a large-scale installation developed with Korean creative studio Our Labour and inspired by a creature from local mythology that has yet to become a dragon. The piece spans all three levels, acting as a unifying thread throughout the space. The art programme also includes a botanical installation by the studio Haiihwa beneath the main staircase and a selection of works by Korean artists Rim Seoyoon and Park Sungwook in the area dedicated to Zara Man.
The store offers the brand’s latest womenswear, menswear and accessories collections, together with an exclusive capsule created to mark the opening. The Zara Woman line reinterprets the silhouettes and fluidity of the hanbok, Korea’s traditional dress, through a contemporary lens, whilst the menswear selection explores the current codes of local streetwear. The exclusive collection is also available via Zara’s online store in the country.
